A man who exposed his genitals and masturbated in public on the seafront in Bray, Co Wicklow, has received an 18-month suspended jail sentence.
Barry Jones, 49, of Ballylug, Rathdrum, Co Wicklow, pleaded guilty to a charge of exposure of a sexual nature at Strand Road, Bray, Co Wicklow, with the intent of causing fear, distress or alarm in another person on 14 November 2021.
Garda Byrne said officers had shouted out at the accused that they were gardai but he had continued his act. She said she still struggled with panic attacks and severe depression and did not go into a bar for two years. The third victim said she also no longer felt safe alone or even in a group and no longer stayed around outside venues.The court heard that Jones wished to pay €1,000 to each of his victims"as a symbol of contrition."
He said gardaí also became aware that a man had exposed himself while purchasing bread at the counter in the Centra store the previous day at around 4.45pm. Mr Gallagher provided a letter from the accused’s wife which outlined personal issues which had affected her husband for which the court heard he was receiving counselling.
