Forensic experts had to be hired to trawl through documents given to the Fianna Fáil leader from Google

The Fianna Fáil leader explained, however, that forensic experts have not yet been able to track down who exactly was behind the ads.

“In the first instance, the fake ads seem to have originated from jurisdictions in Belarus and Russia. It seems that stolen credit cards were used to pay for the ads,” he explained. “We received an enormous amount of documentation, the density of which, we had to employ forensic people to go through it to try and identify who were the people who paid for fake ads, still with great difficulty.”
