Speaking on the first day of his four-day trip to Kenya, the Foreign Affairs Minister stated some “elements” in the protest were “determined on destruction and aggression and on a violent approach to resolving these issues”
Tánaiste Micheál Martin has condemned the “appalling scenes in Coolock” as he stated that the Government will “strengthen laws” to crack down on attacks on Gardaí if required.

“In the context of what's happening globally, in the context of what's happening in the United States with this shocking assassination attempt on former President Trump, which I condemn utterly, there’s a real need to assert the primacy of democracy, of dialogue of engagement and civilised discussion, as opposed to aggression, violence, and the use of the gun.
“There has been substantial engagement but I think there are certain elements , clearly, were not interested in engagement, rather they were interested in destruction, destroying garda cars, attacking the Gardaí,” he continued.
