The Defence Minister will tell his colleagues that he is seeking permission for the Defence Forces to take part in four projects. Two are PESCO and two are European Defence Agency (EDA) Projects
Tánaiste Micheál Martin will seek Cabinet approval this morning to allow the Defence Forces to take part in a project to enhance EU cooperation in monitoring, securing, and defending critical seabed infrastructure.
This involves developing capabilities for surveillance, reconnaissance, and response in maritime environments, as well as fostering information sharing and coordination among participating countries. PESCO is the framework where EU Member States cooperate on shared capability projects to enhance the operations of their respective Armed Forces.Mr Martin will also seek permission for the Defence Forces to take part in EDA Projects. This includes a Defence Energy Manager's Course that will provide training and education on energy management and sustainability for military installations; resulting in energy consumption, cost, and CO2 emission reduction benefits.
Agriculture Minister Charlie McConalogue will bring An Bord Bia’s Annual Report for 2023. This will state that the value of Irish food, drink and horticulture exports in 2023 was €16.2bn.
