” My name is Raleigh Thandazani Chiwuta and I was born in Zimbabwe in 1984 into a newly independent country with the shadow of war and colonialism still looming over the country. As a result, the issue of race, the social and economic disparity between blacks and whites and the overarching politics of a post-colonial African country were singed into my mind at a very young age.
The result is this book and collection of poems which is an exploration of life and the human condition through poetry. Named after my daughter inside the desire that any loving parent has, that the world be a better place for their precious children. The poems are wide ranging and are for anyone who enjoys poetry or loves musing about life discussing many varied themes such as love, race and racism, God, even the purpose of life or what life could be if humanity expressed the best of itself.
The inspiration for the book was to challenge and overcome all that is negative about life. As I was born in Zimbabwe, just four years post-independence, I was born into a deeply divided racial world and also a country that had problems with tribalism. A post-colonial conflict was even fought in many ways along tribal lines.
However, instead of being consumed with bitterness, hatred and a desire for revenge, my collection of poems aims to imagine the potential of a better world.
