Tam says his tribute to his old pal Craig Brown was not good - but it's what he would have wanted
It was May 5, 2010, a lovely summer evening at Fir Park and Hibs - who’d taken a 4-1 lead at half-time - were beating Motherwell 6-2. A lot of my fellow ‘Well fans had suffered enough and started heading for the exits - including one of my pals who sits in the East Stand.
You see, folks, Craig was the Motherwell manager on that unforgettable night at Fir Park and every time I was in his brilliant company - especially at a football dinner or in the Off The Ball studio - he INSISTED I told that story. So that one’s for you, old pal. The legendary Clyde, Motherwell, Aberdeen and Scotland boss was a well kent face in The Wee Windaes - the best pub in Ayr - which is run by Jim McSherry, a dear friend and another great football man. And I was gutted to hear that another one of Jim’s regulars passed away last week - my big pal Iain Ferguson who, after a brilliant career in newspapers , enjoyed a 20-year spell as PR boss at Ayr Races.
