'Serious breach of trust' - Taoiseach 'very concerned' at RTÉ developments.

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said he is very concerned over the contents of RTÉ's statement and the subsequent suspension of the Director-General Dee Forbes., amid fallout from the payment of hundreds of thousands of euro more to presenter Ryan Tubridy than it had declared to the public or the Oireachtas.AdvertisementIn a statement, Mr Varadkar said all of the matters involved will have to be examined, and"remedial steps" may be needed to restore trust and confidence.

"On the face of it, there has been a serious breach of trust and truth between RTÉ and the Government, the Oireachtas and the people".It comes as a meeting between Media Minister Catherine Martin and Chairperson of the RTÉ Board, Siún Ní Raghallaigh, has been moved forward to Saturday. "At tomorrow’s meeting, the Minister will be asking the chairperson to set out in detail, the issues involved and the steps the RTÉ board is taking," he said.

"All of the matters involved will have to be examined and, perhaps, remedial steps taken to restore trust and confidence.
