Taoiseach says Defence Force members with convictions should be dismissed

It was confirmed 68 Defence Forces personnel have been convicted or are currently before the courts on a range of criminal offences including public order, drink driving, drugs offences, physical assault and sexual offences

Taoiseach Simon Harris has stated that anyone in the Defence Forces with a criminal conviction who has not been dismissed should be booted out.

He continued: "I can't obviously comment in relation to matters of court, though I have a lot to say if it was allowed. But what I can certainly comment on is how the Defence Forces when they arise. "In fairness to both the Tánaiste and the Chief of Staff, I believe they're working through this information. The Tánaiste will consult with the Attorney General to see what information can be put in the public domain."
