A report examining the provision of abortion services in Ireland will be published on Wednesday, five years after the referendum to appeal the 8th Amendment
Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that it is "not good enough" that only 11 hospitals are providing abortion services five years after the referendum to repeal the 8th Amendment.
Speaking in the Dáíl, the Taoiseach said that the report shows that there are "gaps in the service" and this is going to be acted on "right away".Mr Varadkar said: "There are 400 GP practices that provide abortion services in Ireland. That is not a small number. More than 8,000 abortions were performed in Ireland last year, which is not a small number either.
Mr Varadkar said that work will be done to ensure that abortion is available in all 19 hospitals by the end of the year.
