Taoiseach Simon Harris said that he will call an election 'swiftly' once the Finance Bill is passed. The Fine Gael leader said the working assumption is that the Bill will be passed by Thursday November 7.

Taoiseach Simon Harris has hinted that he will dissolve the Dáil and call a general election next week.

“It's purely from the point of view of I've outlined the criteria of what I want to get done first. The most important thing I would imagine before one knocks on a door and asks for a vote is to make sure you've passed the USC cut that will benefit that household behind that door, that you've changed the inheritance tax rates, that you've changed the rule about how much you can earn before paying the higher rate of tax.

“We're not a long way now. I intend to move swiftly after the passage of the Finance Bill. “Once the Finance Bill passes, I believe that to be an important moment. There will be an election very shortly.” Party leader Minister O’Gorman said the Greens have been “the driving force” behind many of this Government's policies, including halving the cost of childcare, increasing public transport routes while reducing fares, and reducing carbon emissions.
