A two-way virtual portal linking Dublin’s North Earl Street and Fifth Avenue in New York was taken offline on Tuesday evening due to anti-social behaviour
Taoiseach Simon Harris has said that the recent controversy that has emerged over the Dublin Portal is “disappointing” and “regrettable”.
Videos of revellers visiting the portal in Dublin showing their New York counterparts pictures of the World Trade Centre being struck by planes on 9/11 went viral on social media. There were also suggestions that people were exposing themselves on the camera, as well as taking drugs. Dublin City Council confirmed that it is now searching for solutions to tackle the anti-social behaviour seen in recent weeks.
In a statement on Tuesday evening, Dublin City Council stated that the team behind the portal has been “investigating possible technical solutions to inappropriate behaviour by a small minority of people in front of the Portal”.
