We speak to MayorofKingstown star MrTaylorHandley shares his thoughts on the shame and guilt Kyle McLusky is still suffering as season 2 progresses:
Paramount+’s Mayor of Kingstown has already aired two episodes of season 2, but its characters are still dealing with the fallout of the events from last season. Younger brother Kyle McLusky has in particular had a rough go of it, experiencing crippling shame and guilt over his lack of action during the prison riot. These negative feelings create anxiety in his new job, leading to a devastating incident in last week's episode after his fellow officer was gunned down.
Taylor Handley: Yeah, the fallout for Kyle is the main thread that he has to deal with this season. Season 2 picked up a couple of weeks after it happened, so we're still right in the middle of the action. As I said, there's fallout for everybody, but it's specifically given Kyle time to think about how he reacted under pressure. He's feeling a lot of pain and a lot of shame, and he's running from it as fast as he can.
Taylor Handley: Well, it's not the greatest idea to bring the girl whose, so as you put it, proximity to one of Kingstown's most notorious villains and criminals is so close. Right at the beginning of episode 2, I check Mike in the kitchen. I go, "What the hell you doing? Get her out of here." But, of course, Mike always has reasons for the things he does. So, you'll have to see that play out.
As I said, it's a continuation of season 1, and we're right on the heels of that. Kyle's still processing what it's like to be a father while suffering from this PTSD and shame. It's hard for him to be present because he's so wrapped up in his mind, but Tracy is constantly trying to be his biggest advocate and have him get help. But Kyle's Irish; the last thing he wants to do is talk to a therapist. He thinks, "I'm gonna go shoot some guns.
This town is called Kingstown. Originally, it was a town founded with the idea that we were going to be kings here. How can you let go of something that's so important to you, especially with a family that has such deep roots and history there? It's tough, and it's easier said than done to just move away and go. If Miriam was serious about this, then she would move away with Kyle and Mike; we would all move as a nice happy family. But nobody's leaving.
And when it comes to the brotherly dynamic, he's such a professional. I've been doing this 25 years, but I vividly remember the first time we did a scene together. It was the first time we met, so I walked up to him and he was like, "Hey, how are you doing?" I said, "I'm Taylor, and I'm playing your brother." We talked for about 15 minutes, and then boom, we're right into it. We didn't even have to talk about the scene; we just clicked right into gear.
