Larry Fink, chairman and CEO of BlackRock, speaks on Oct. 12 during the Institute of International Finance annual membership meeting in Washington, D.C., where the theme was “The Search for Stability in an Era of Uncertainty, Realignment and Transformation.” Fink’s company is on the Texas Comptroller’s naughty list, ostensibly because Fink advocates considering environmental and social goals when making investment decisions.
The inclusion of Blackrock on the comptroller’s boycott list shows most clearly that this is political punishment to satisfy precious snowflakes in Texas government leadership rather than anything else.Meanwhile, Texas continues to seek to bully social media companies for perceived political bias. This law is hopefully on its way to being struck down as unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, but we’re a bit away from that.
The social media companies have responded that they must filter content on their platforms to avoid violence, hate speech and fraud. When the government limits the political activities or speech of private businesses, that should worry the strongest free speech constitutionalists and free marketers among us.
