Teacher 'stabbed to death by student during class' in France
A teacher has reportedly been stabbed to death by a student during class at a school in the French town of Saint-Jean-de-Luz.
According to the BBC, a 16-year-old student was arrested following the attack at Saint-Thomas d'Aquin school on Wednesday. The teacher was said to be teaching a Spanish class. Local media reports stated that the teacher was in their fifties and died of cardiac arrest after emergency services arrived at the school, the BBC said.France's Education Minister, Pap Ndiaye said in a tweet on Wednesday morning that he was on his way to the scene. He added: "My thoughts are with their family, colleagues and students."
Government spokesman Olivier Véran said politicians are supporting the "educational community". He told a press conference: "I can hardly imagine the trauma that this can represent."
