Mike Corbett, NASUWT officer for Scotland, who presented evidence to the committee, said: "We have got a cultural problem. It comes after the Record revealed the full extent of violence in Scottish schools last month, with new figures showing nearly 11,000 incidents reported between 2021/22. Carrie Lindsay, Executive Director of Education and Children's Services, Fife Council, said: "The data that we have uses slightly different definitions in different places. There isn't a firm definition about what violence or distressed behaviour is that people could use.Dr Joan Mowat, Senior Lecturer, School of Education, Strathclyde University, added: "In terms of, do we have the data, I don't think we do.
