There’s not enough space in the classrooms, so tables, desks and chairs are arranged outside in the hallway for small groups to be able to work or study. There’s a shortage of office space, as the school has to hire more staff to accommodate more students, so a few storage utility closets have been turned into teacher offices.

All those new jobs, of course, come with increased housing demand, much of which is expected to be met in Hays County. According to Hays CISD demographic data, the district — which includes a small portion of Travis County — is expected to see 58,460 new homes over the next 10 to 15 years. That’s far more than in any of the other 20 school districts in the Austin metro area, and it doesn’t include San Marcos CISD or Dripping Springs ISD, which can expect 6,025 and 6,984 new homes, respectively.
