After the first piece of devastating news in 2005, the singer was then told in 2017 it had returned as secondary incurable breast cancer in her hip. This then spread to her liver in 2020, before two tumours, as well as smaller ones, were found in her brain in spring this year.
“I just feel, because I’ve been having steroid treatment as well and my face is swollen, I look like Mrs Potato Head. She now lives full-time in Blackpool in her sister, Denise's home, a few doors away from her own house, but fears she will never go back to her own space. She admits that a stairlift is arriving next week and will also be getting a mobility scooter, but admits she'll have more freedom.
Linda rose to fame alongside her siblings Anne, Denise, Maureen, Bernie and Coleen in pop group, The Nolans in 1974. 10 years ago this month, the disease took her sister Bernie, as well as her husband Brian. But then she hesitates. “It’s hard sometimes,” she admits, “when in a fabulous situation like that, not to get angry. I went back to my cottage one night and slammed the door and cried my eyes out, I don’t want to be missing this.”
“My hand is a little bit shaky now but I’ve said to the girls, if I do this and you think ‘Oh my god, you look ridiculous’ please tell me. Because after you get off the floor where I’ve punched you, you can do it for me.”
