Una Doyle and Joanna Lynch were celebrating after watching their sons win bronze in Paris

Nerve-wracking. That was the only way to describe it for Una Doyle and Joanna Lynch. They are the two mothers of Philip Doyle and Daire Lynch and yesterday they celebrated after watching their sons win Olympic bronze.

“And then they were fifth and then they were fourth and we thought, ‘Oh my God!’ It was nerve-wracking, but wonderful.”Read More: Rowers Philip Doyle and Daire Lynch secure another Olympic medal for IrelandTears of joy for her son Philip and tears of sadness that her husband Eamonn wasn’t there to see it after his death in 2015.“Una had tears because her husband Eamonn isn’t here. Philip’s dad died in 2015, so it’s a very emotional time for Philip and his mum,” said Joanna Lynch.

“Well, I only watched the last bit. But it’s very nerve-wracking. You think it’s not really happening — it’s happening to somebody else. And then you realise this is real,” she said. “Unreal.
