Paul Scully says there should be more of a focus on the good artificial intelligence can do.
Tech minister Paul Scully has warned so-called "Terminator-style" risks to humanity from artificial intelligence should not be highlighted at the expense of the good it can do.
Marc Warner, a member of the AI Council, an expert body set up to advise the government, told BBC News last week aHowever, he argued that "narrow AI" designed for particular tasks, such as systems that look for cancer in medical images, should be regulated on the same basis as existing tech. However, she added: "But we do have to think really carefully about the risks, make sure we've got good regulation in place."
Ms Powell earlier told the Guardian she felt AI should be licensed in a similar way to medicines or nuclear power, both of which had dedicated regulators.
