A 17-year-old girl has died after being attacked by a shark while swimming at Woorim Beach on Bribie Island, Australia. Emergency services responded to the scene but were unable to save her. Woorim Beach has been closed until further notice. This is the third fatal shark attack in Australia in recent months.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at Woorim Beach on Bribie Island, north of Brisbane, at around 4.45pm local time on Monday following reports of the attack.

Footage of the aftermath of the attack showed more than a dozen emergency responders scrambling to save the youngster, while another girl is seen being comforted. Queensland Police later confirmed the teenage girl's death in a statement. “The female sustained life-threatening injuries and succumbed to those injuries just after 5pm,” police said.Surf Life Saving Queensland issued a statement confirming that a female swimmer was fatally attacked by a shark in an un-patrolled area at Woorim Beach on Bribie Island.

Drumlines, which are used to catch sharks using bait and large hooks, are used at Woorim Beach, the closest surf beach north of Brisbane and a popular destination for surfers. Drone surveillance is also undertaken.In December, Luke Walford, a school chaplain and youth pastor, died after being attacked by a shark on the edge of Australia's Great Barrier Reef while on holiday with his family.
