17-year-old boy, who cannot be named because he is a minor, was due to stand trial on Monday

A teenage boy who was due to stand trial at the Central Criminal Court on Monday has admitted murdering a woman at a residential property in Co Offaly last year.

The judge explained to the teenager that a formal process would now be carried out, where the single charge on the indictment would be read out to him. Defence counsel James Dwyer SC, for the boy, asked the judge to direct a probation report and to remand his client in detention for a specific period of time. He asked the court to fix a sentence date towards the end of July.
