He dodged red lights and broke the speed limit
A man on a stolen motorbike's high-speed journey ended abruptly when he hit a large pothole and was thrown off. Police began the chase on March 26 this year when Jack Norman ignored a red light along Rock Hill, Mansfield on silver-coloured Yamaha motorbike.
Norman turned left onto Maltby Road, sped along between 50-60mph, then onto Epsom Street on the wrong side of the road. He ended up in Eakring Road, where he was going 60mph in a 30mph limit. He dodged a red light at the Oak Tree Lane junction, then went onto an area where there were large potholes in the road. He hit one, throwing him off the bike. And he ran into dense undergrowth but was caught. Jack Norman had been riding the bike which had been stolen in the Nottinghamshire area.
Norman had the bike for a day before the driving incident after he borrowed it from a friend he refused to name. Aged 19 and of previous good character, he had never passed compulsory bike training. Norman, of Northfield Close, Sutton-in-Ashfield, was sentenced on Tuesday for using the motorbike without insurance and dangerous driving after he pleaded guilty. Recorder Michael Auty QC gave him ten months in youth custody, suspended for two years, and 150 hours of unpaid work, points on his licence, and a driving ban for three years.
