Which company is the best EV maker? Tesla's up there, but other car makers are putting up some impressive quality and customer satisfaction numbers:
Tesla is winning the EV battle now, but can it win the war? While myriad factors will go into who ultimately declares victory—think battery costs, manufacturing excellence, branding, and powertrain efficiency, to name a few—it all boils down to who makes cars that consumers want to drive.
For the record, the Lucid is nicer—Barron’s has driven both—but that isn’t saying much. Those cars just aren’t for the same consumers. Luxury cars have more features on them that can go wrong, so compared with its peers, Tesla looks OK. The 2021 version offered both good and bad news for Tesla. On the positive side, the survey shows that the quality of electric vehicles there now matches that of gasoline-powered cars. EVs in China are as high quality as any other vehicle, on average.
