The Aggies turn to LSU transfer Max Johnson to upset the Hurricanes.

Texas A&M running back Devon Achane runs against Miami during the first half. The Kyle Field crowd of 107,245 was the third-largest in stadium history.COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M made a switch at quarterback, and the Aggies made a switch back into the win column as a result — this time against their first Power Five opponent of the season.

The lefthanded Johnson immediately injected some needed bounce into the offense, although the offensive line is still in need of plenty of improvement springing into SEC play. The Aggies’ bounce-back victory came before 107,245 fans, the third-largest Kyle Field crowd in history and largest ever against a nonconference opponent.

The Aggies scored the game’s first touchdown, thanks in large part to a Miami miscue. The Hurricanes’ Tyrique Stevenson fumbled a punt in the first quarter, and A&M made Miami pay three plays later on a 1-yard dive into the end zone by bullish running back LJ Johnson. The fleet-footed Stewart in particular was expected to be counted on for Johnson. Also, standout A&M safety Antonio Johnson left the game in the second half with an undisclosed injury.
