Texas A&M quarterback Haynes King was dealing with a foot injury during the Aggies’ Oct. 8 loss to then-No.1 Alabama.COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher said starting quarterback Haynes King is “ready” to play on Saturday night at South Carolina.
King was hit multiple times in the Aggies’ 24-20 loss at Alabama on Oct. 8, and Fisher said afterward that King had fought through a foot injury against the Crimson Tide. King had the luxury of the Aggies not playing this past Saturday and recovering from the foot injury. King started the first two games of this season before he was replaced by Max Johnson, who injured his left hand three games into his A&M tenure as a starter. Fisher turned back to King, who also won the starting job last year before he had a season-ending leg injury in Week 2, against the Crimson Tide on Oct. 8.
The Aggies are 7-0 against the Gamecocks as SEC cross-division rivals, and A&M will play its fourth consecutive game away from Kyle Field on Saturday night. A&M is angling for a fresh start with the second half of the season, after splitting their first six games in a disappointing start to a year in which they were ranked No. 6 in the preseason Associated Press poll.
Fisher was asked during Monday’s weekly press conference if five-star freshman Conner Weigman of Bridgeland might earn a few series against South Carolina, as well.
