All told, the state added 30,100 jobs in March, bringing total employment to about 13.2 million statewide, according to the Texas Workforce Commission. The unemployment rate fell to 4.4 percent from the 4.7 percent in February and 6.5 percent a year ago.On HoustonChronicle.com:Texas has added more than 730,000 jobs over the past year, including more than 150,000 since January, That’s the most jobs added in the first three months of the year on record going back to 1990.
The Houston region continued to lag slightly behind the state in March, adding about 800 jobs. The local unemployment rate fell to 4.4 percent from 7.2 percent in March 2021.Statewide, the largest growth came in the financial activities sector, which added 7,800 jobs in March. Manufacturers also added 5,6000 jobs.
