Here's why Texas is 'covered in goo'

Aphids, which are about the size of a pinhead, are invading trees, mostly pecan, but also oaks, crepe myrtles and others, Sperry said., but their population has exploded. The bugs likely have fewer predators, again thanks to the drought. Honeydew will wash off with water, Sperry said. But something called sooty mold fungus can grow in the secretion if left unwashed, giving everything a black cast.
If that happens, Sperry advises using warm, soapy water or soft scrub brush to remove the mold. Experts do not suggest using insecticides because the aphids nor the honeydew cause any damage.Honeydew is water-soluble, so a heavy rain should wash it away. Fortunately,
