‘In the active shooter situation, you want to stop the killing, you want to preserve life. But also one thing that, of course, the American people need to understand is that officers are making entry into this building. They do not know where the gunman is. They are hearing gunshots. They are receiving gunshots,’ Olivarez said.
Local and state police waited outside Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas for nearly an hour waiting for a specialized US Border Patrol tactical team to arrive and help take out gunman Salvador Ramos. It’s still unclear why it took so long. All of the murders were committed inside that classroom, they include 19 children and two teachers. Police officers were unable to enter the classroom and stop him until a staff member gave them a key to unlock the door.On Thursday, officials confirmed a school district police officer was not inside the building when Ramos arrived, despite initial reports claiming there was an officer who confronted him outside the building.
