Longhorn receivers growing into effective blockers
Oklahoma defensive back Trey Morrison flies over as teammate Woodi Washington tackles Texas wide receiver Xavier Worthy during the first half of an NCAA college football game at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Saturday, Oct. 8, 2022. AUSTIN — Texas coach Steve Sarkisian knew the play he called on second-and-6 from the Oklahoma 15 would lead to a touchdown if everyone could perform their respective task.
This time around, Worthy was ready to get his hands dirty. As soon as Robinson hauled in the pass from quarterback Quinn Ewers, Worthy engaged Oklahoma cornerback Jaden Davis . The outcome: Davis was completely walled off, stuck wrestling with Worthy as Robinson whizzed by. On Monday, the Big 12 announced Ewers as the conference newcomer of the week. He was also named a Manning Award"star of the week."
“Jordan is the lead dog there, and as the veteran in that room, he sets the tone for what the expectation is for the other receivers. And on Keilan’s touchdown, as much as I loved Jordan’s block to spring him at the end, it really started with Xavier’s block at the point of attack.”
