This makes TG4 the seventh most-watched channel in Ireland, with 3.73 million people tuning in at some point last year. Its surge in popularity extended beyond television, with 4.3 million video views on the TG4 Player and a 23 per cent growth compared to 2023. The channel is also using innovative ways to promote its social media channels as it gained an impressive 80 million views across all platforms last year. Sport is the main reason viewers tuned into TG4. The AIB Club Football Final between Watty Graham’s GAC and St. Brigid’s was the most-watched programme of the year, with 263,000 viewers. The Allianz Football League Final, Dublin vs Derry, was the second-most watched show as it attracted 230,900 viewers. Galway vs Kerry in the Peil na mBan Final was among the channel’s top 10 broadcasts as Rugbaí Beo’s United Rugby Championship coverage also proved to be a major draw for fans. In a new partnership with GAA Handball, Liathróid Láimhe live coverage and documentaries reached over one million views on TV and online, with viewers tuning in from 55 countries. Rap group Kneecap has also no doubt had a massive influence on the promotion of the Irish language in 2024. The trio from Belfast have dominated IFTA and BAFTA nominations with their movie Kneecap- a semi-fictional biopic of how the rap group was formed. It has also been longlisted for two Oscars in the Best International Feature Film and Best Original Song. TG4 has been a broadcast partner for the group and "a proud support" since the very beginning. Kneecap’s hit movie is one of many Irish-language highlights of 2024, according to the channel. On Christmas Day, TG4 was delighted to broadcast An Cailín Ciúin, which was nominated for an Oscar last year. Fleadh 2024 also smashed viewership records for TG4, with Thursday night performances drawing the biggest audience in the event’s history on the channel. Highlights of the festival included iconic performances by Michael Flatley and Sharon Shannon. Last year was a significant year for TG4 as it launched its children’s offering on-air - Cúla4. Popular Cúla4 programmes in 2024 included CoComelon, Super Simple Amhráin, Taffy, Am Foghlama le Timmy, and new homegrown content such as Nuacht Cúla4, Lí Ban, Siar Linn, Mo Pheata, Is Mise.
