The Batman 2 is reportedly not expected to release until 2025 at the earliest 😭 Director Matt Reeves has yet to finish the sequel's script according to a new report
A new report suggests The Batman 2 is not expected to release until 2025. Once Ben Affleck exited the DC Extended Universe as Batman and abandoned plans to develop a solo movie, Warner Bros. gave Matt Reeves the keys to the Dark Knight's cinematic future. He cast Robert Pattinson to play Bruce Wayne in The Batman, a detective-driven movie focused on the criminal underbelly of Gotham.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY Development on The Batman 2 has been underway ever since the first movie became such a success. Warner Bros. officially announced the sequel in April with Matt Reeves returning to write and direct and Robert Pattinson returning to star. It is so far unconfirmed if Barry Keoghan's Joker will be in The Batman 2. There have not been many updates on the sequel in the months since, but the franchise's scope has continued to expand.
How The Batman 2 Fits Into DC Studios' Overhaul With James Gunn The development of The Batman 2 will now overlap with James Gunn and Peter Safran leading DC Studios after the significant shakeup. However, they will reportedly not oversee Matt Reeves' plans for The Batman shared universe. According to other reports, this responsibility will fall to Warner Bros. co-chairs Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy.
While James Gunn and Peter Safran work to overhaul DC's future, it seems Matt Reeves will continue to receive great freedom to develop The Batman 2 at his own pace. Warner Bros. has never given the sequel a release date despite confirming it is on the way, which has been a sign that it will happen whenever Reeves is ready. A 2025 release for The Batman 2 seems like a long time to wait, but the three-year gap between the sequel and the first film is standard for most major franchises.
