It's easy to lose yourself in the labyrinth of fantasy storytelling. Such is the case with Netflix'sseries. It follows the familiar beats of a typical Chosen One adventure, focusing on Alina Starkov , a young cartographer who discovers she harbors extraordinary power at her fingertips. There are, of course, men who try to manipulate her, kidnap her, andher power for themselves as Alina learns to control her newfound abilities in order to save a wartorn Ravka.
While Alina's coming-of-age is the heart of the show, it's the colorful cast of secondary characters that keep the blood flowing. There's Kaz Brekker and his motley crew of mercenaries: Inej , a confident spy; Jesper , a sassy sharpshooter; and Nina , a feisty Heartrender. And a YA fantasy wouldn't be complete without a morally bankrupt, albeit extremely attractive, villain .: Everyone is sexy and working through their own trauma while also fighting in a magical war.
