Given that this year’s Met Gala theme was Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion – a nod to those fragile pieces of fashion history that can no longer be worn – vintage obsessives were hoping for an abundance of archival looks on the first Monday of May.
Still, there were several true vintage looks, including Zendaya’s second red-carpet look, a corseted gown from Givenchy’s spring/summer 1996 couture collection by John Galliano. Meanwhile, Kendall Jenner opted for a never-worn-before Givenchy by Alexander McQueen autumn/winter 1999 couture dress for the red carpet, followed by a winged spring/summer 1997 dress, also by the designer for the French fashion house, for the Met Gala after-parties.
