Once you have met someone that you like, King advises getting deep quickly. “On a first date, I would ask something that’s really vulnerable and see how they respond. For example, what’s your biggest fear? These questions show how easy it is for them to open up.
Just as it’s important to understand someone else’s values early on, it’s also important to be completely honest about your own. “The biggest mistake people make with modern dating is treating it like a game that needs to be won,” says King. “Instead of considering if someone’s completely compatible with us or likes us for who we are, a lot of the time we try to impress people and get them to like us.Love Island.
In theory, dating apps should make the quest for authentic love easier. But what if they only make it harder? “Thanks to dating apps, we have this paradox of choice. There are almost too many choices. So people are too quick to move on. The most confusing thing to accept about true love is that it’s a myth. “As young kids, the idea of true love is usually learnt from our parents, and the relationship that they had. If it wasn’t a great relationship, often we turned to Disney, or love songs, to teach us what love looks like,” says King. “As a result, we’ve got a heightened idea of what relationships should be like.
