The Colorado Avalanche won the Stanley Cup, beating the defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning in six games
The Tampa Bay Lightning’s reign at the top of the National Hockey League is over and a new one may well be starting, as the Colorado Avalanche became the 2022 Stanley Cup champions on Sunday night.
The Avalanche dispatched the two-time defending champions 2-1 on the road to win the series in six games. Colorado turned a one-goal deficit into a lead in the second period and held steady through the final 20 minutes to win the franchise’s third championship. The Lightning, on the other hand, crumbled in the final period and did not manage more than one shot on goal until the waning minutes.
