Band of Brothers: Ireland’s only country music twins Owen and Matthew Ennis on growing up in Ireland, life on the road and being compared to Jedward and Ant & Dec

Owen: Growing up, our nanny and granda used to have a holiday home down in Wexford so we had long car journeys with them. One of their favourite artists was The Everly Brothers, so that’s where we got into doing vocal harmonies and singing together. We’ve always been on the same page and a music teacher we had in school really took us under his wing when we went into first year. He taught us how to harmonise and we’ve been in sync since then.

We played football together and once we hit secondary school the music took over for us. We’re brothers, best friends and business partners. In primary school we got separated in first or second class.

M: We had just got a bit of momentum when the industry shut down during the pandemic, but thankfully we had day jobs to keep us going. They were boring 9-5 jobs but they never got in the way of music because the gigs were at nighttime or at the weekend. It was the perfect balance between the two things.M: Sometimes when we are talking to people and they ask us a question we can answer with the exact same tone of voice and wording. Unfortunately, we can’t read each other’s minds though.
