'To be expecting the final say on the biggest appointments after just a few months is extremely concerning'
I've been heavily critical of Hibs’ decision-makers in recent years and it’s made me about as welcome as a Jam Tart in the Easter Road boardroom at times. But this column isn’t for blowing smoke up backsides or acting as a club lackey – no matter how much I love the Hibees.
He referenced another of his clubs Lorient as listening to his advice. They got relegated last year! Is that supposed to fill supporters with optimism this guy knows what he’s doing? Fair play to the Gordons for sticking to their guns with the appointments they believe are needed right now. That was perhaps the most alarming thing about Foley’s outburst. The bit where the Bournemouth owner talks about all the clubs in his stable playing with a similar style and similar players so they can move from club to club. We’re talking about four teams in four different countries facing four different types of challenges.
Hibs can be a bit more adventurous at home against sides at the bottom of the division. But play 4-3-3 and press high up the pitch at Parkhead and you’ll get annihilated. Lee Johnson tried – once. And a 6-1 scudding ensured he never tried again. Derek McInnes and Stephen Robinson have got it spot-on with their pragmatic approach, look at Kilmarnock and St Mirren last season.
