Its gloomy backdrop of grey Sheffield skies was elevated by an engaging and funny script that delivered its money shot in a crisp yet stirring 90 minutes. Horse rides a mobility scooter, is baffled by self-service checkouts and exists on the breadline. Lomper and his husband Dennis run a café called “Big Baps”, though they apparently didn’t notice double entendre and the shop sign is soon covered over for fear of being “cancelled”. A more positive sign of the times is the relaxed and less reticent way in which the couple’s gay relationship is handled – there’s certainly none of the homophobic slurs bandied that were bandied about in the film.
