The year is not over in the garden, and there are still plenty of vegetables to plant in September to make the most of your garden kitchen.
Summer might be nearly over but September still has plenty to offer. The start of the new school year can also be an opportunity to plant some late vegetables in the garden. There's plenty to keep amateur gardeners busy in the vegetable garden, with varieties that are sometimes a little less familiar, but also in the garden before the onset of winter.
PLENTY TO DO IN THE GARDEN IN SEPTEMBER When it comes to sowing, it's a good time to plant winter spinach, lamb's lettuce, early turnips and coriander. Gardeners with a greenhouse or conservatory can also sow spring cabbage, spring cauliflower, white onions or parsley in pots or seed trays. You need to be vigilant to prevent the disease from spreading. It is advisable to ‘remove the tops and leaves from tomato plants to encourage ripening of the remaining fruit’.
