Following the premiere of the highly-anticipated The Last of Us television series, a comparison video shows just how game-accurate episode 1 truly is. The new zombie horror HBO show is based on the critically acclaimed 2013 PlayStation 3 video game of the same name.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY IGN recently created a comparison video that highlights the similarities between The Last of Us episode 1 and original scenes from the video game. IGN's video uses side-by-side comparisons to showcase how faithful The Last of Us' premiere episode was to the original game. Episode 1 features Joel's daughter, Sarah sporting the same shirt as her video game counterpart while the family's desperate escape happens much in the same way. Even specific lines of dialogue are pulled directly from the video game.
Druckmann, who created the original video game, was inspired by real-world fungi called Cordyceps. Certain strains are known to infect insects' brains, changing the animal's behavior. In The Last of Us game, the infection is spread through the bite of an infected individual or from spores generated by a deceased infected person.
Although the show's creators promised a faithful adaptation, trailers have shown new story elements not originally in the iconic video game. For example, a group of violent survivors that terrorized the heroes in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania will be located in Kansas City and be given a leader named Kathleen, portrayed by Yellowjackets star Melanie Lynskey. Episode 3 has also been teased with drastic changes to The Last of Us' narrative.
