Bill O’Brien, in his second season with the Crimson Tide, was “in deep convos” with Georgia Tech, according to Jeff Shultz of The Athletic. That interest has since “cooled,” Shultz said as new athletics director J Batt makes his first big hire.
The coaching carousel is already cranking into full gear and Alabama’s offensive coordinator’s name is popping up.according to Jeff Shultz of The Athletic
. That interest has since “cooled,” Shultz said as new athletics director J Batt makes his first big hire. Batt was hired just last month after five years in Alabama’s athletics administration. Willie Fritz of Tulane is reportedly the front runner now after former Tide offensive line coach Brent Key was the interim coach for the final eight games of the regular season.
O’Brien will almost certainly have other options at the NFL level with a return to the New England Patriots. He was also connected to the Nebraska search that ended Saturday with the hiring of Matt Rhule. After being fired as the Houston Texans head coach, O’Brien came to Alabama in January 2021 after Steve Sarkisian took the head job at Texas. He’s in the second year of a two-year deal that paid him $1.1 million a year.
