On July 19, 1984, The Mighty Wah! performed 'Come Back' on 'Top of the Pops' and singer Pete Wylie saluted Frankie Goes to Hollywood, who were at number one with 'Two Tribes'. This was a significant moment for Liverpool bands, as they dominated the charts shortly after Liverpool's fourth European Cup win.

After their turn, singer Pete Wylie barged his way to the front of the crowd to salute another Scouse band - Frankie Goes to Hollywood, who were at number one with 'Two Tribes'

"I was only a kid but I was enthralled by the Kop. That community of people. The attitude, The swagger. the scarves tied around their wrists, the haircuts "There wasn't much happening at our end, and at 2pm, I tried to get around the ground, but I was stopped by a couple of policemen. They weren’t letting people around the residential streets.

Tempany was one of the lucky ones. The gate in the fence was finally opened and he got on to the pitch. He was 19-years-old. He saw horrors nobody should see. “I know of four survivors who've taken their own lives. Just three years ago, I lost one of my friends. He just couldn't take it anymore,'' he said.

There were years when Hillsborough was the first thing Tempany thought about on waking in the morning"I can go five or six days without thinking about Hillsborough, maybe even a week. It was every day up until 2019, when I finally went to counselling,'' he said."The inquests in 2016 were a massive help too. I think a lot of people felt they were a done deal but they weren't. They were on edge until the last minute.

Not for the first time, the air was toxic with so-called 'tragedy chanting', and one United fan was arrested having been caught on video mimicking Hillsborough victims."At Liverpool games, there are people sitting there who lost family members and friends at Hillsborough. Why should they have to listen to that stuff? Why should survivors have to listen to it?

"A lot of these people feel trapped, they've been worn out, they've been failed and, what they do, is they punch down, as they see it.”
