Step one in treating contact dermatitis on your hands is figuring out what the irritant may be and removing it from your daily routine, Dr. Travers says. That may take some trial and error—start by eliminating the most obvious, like a new soap or lotion, and then go from there—so you might want to talk to a dermatologist, if you’re able, to see what help they can provide. “Step two is to try to restore the skin’s normal barrier with the simple act of moisturizing,” Dr. Travers says.
