'Scousers… are like Sicilian and Neapolitan people. It’s like being home.'

Two brothers who travelled hundreds of miles from Italy and now make 'pastries to die for' in Liverpool city centre.

Younger brother Federico followed afterwards to attend catering college - his interests, however, were in mixology. The business was open for just over a year when the pandemic happened. However, the brothers currently have no plans to move the business to alternative larger premises. This, Federico said, might damage the brand: “We keep it quiet. We get a lot of local people . People can take a seat in our bar and have a chat, whereas in a bigger one, well… we’re like more of a family."

It really is a family affair, with the Carlisi website boasting that some days it could be either brother behind the bar, and other days it may be mama Carlisi over for a brief visit. The clientele of Carlisi varies, he added: "I think we’ve got a good mix of everyone. We’ve got local people from Liverpool who really enjoy the coffee, they really enjoy the quality food - they’re happy and they come in everyday.
