Anybody looking for a staycation destination this spring should consider one region of Scotland that has been described as 'the new Cornwall', home to stunning beaches and historic attractions.
April is finally here, which means there is no time like the present to book a quick getaway somewhere in the Scottish countryside.
The research, which was conducted by Yonder, identified that a demographic known as 'metropolitan adventurers' — a target market worth £2.1 billion — are missing out on the untapped attractions of the region. This affluent group of people, who favour short and quick breaks to disconnect from daily life, would likely enjoy the outdoor activities, walking trails, cultural heritage, and natural beauty on offer in the south of Scotland.
Elsewhere, whisky connoisseurs will no doubt be enticed by the Annandale, Bladnoch, and Borders distilleries. Other highlights of the region include the Borders Abbeys, Abbotsford, the Great Tapestry of Scotland, and Loch Trool. "And while we work to draw visitors to our area, we also want to ensure we manage the growth of tourism to ensure it's sustainable, of benefit to local communities and provides a real, and long-term, boost to the region's economy."
