Food expert Hunter Ebling shares his tips on how to perfectly reheat leftover chips, using an air fryer, oven, or even a hot pan.
Chips are one of the few universally enjoyed food items, even by the pickiest eaters. While preferences may vary - thick cut versus shoestring, salt and vinegar versus plain - most people agree that chips are hard to beat as a side dish. Their deliciousness is such that many people refuse to discard leftovers from a chipper or a big meal, hoping to enjoy them the next day.
However, this often leads to a soggy disappointment! Reheating chips often fails to recapture their original crispness and flavour. Luckily, one food expert has shared the best way to reheat chips without compromising their crunch or taste, according to The Express. Hunter Ebling, of Maine Lobster Now, revealed the secret to reviving leftover chips lies in the trusty air fryer. 'An air fryer works wonders for leftover chips because it circulates hot air around them, crisping them up evenly without making them greasy,' he explained. 'If you set it to 190°C and leave them in for around four minutes, you’ll get chips that taste freshly cooked with no limp or soggy bits in sight.' He suggests patting the chips dry with kitchen roll before placing them in the air fryer and even salting them to draw out any lingering moisture. Another tip for successfully reviving yesterday's chips during reheating involves storage. While many believe cooling them down on their own and storing them in a zip-locked bag or airtight lunchbox to prevent air exposure is best, it's actually better to allow them to cool quickly and let a little air in when storing. 'Sealing them in an airtight container might seem like a good idea, but it actually traps moisture, which makes them even soggier when you reheat them,' he explained. As not everyone has an air fryer, Hunter also offered advice on achieving the best results from leftover chips using a traditional oven. He explained: 'Preheat your oven to 220°C, spread the chips out in a single layer on a baking tray and don’t pile them up or they’ll steam instead of crisp. Bake for about five to 10 minutes. This will warm them through while keeping that much-loved crunch intact.' Using oil in a hot pan can also resurrect leftover chips, so there are plenty of options available. 'A really hot pan with just a little bit of oil can revive your chips beautifully,' Hunter said. 'You don’t need much, just enough to coat the pan, and you should keep the chips moving so they don’t burn.

Scientists Uncover the Secret of Polar Bear Anti-Icing FurResearchers at Trinity College Dublin have discovered the secret behind polar bear fur's ability to resist ice buildup, shedding light on their survival strategy in freezing climates. The study found that a unique combination of cholesterol, diacylglycerols, and fatty acids in their fur sebum (grease) prevents ice from adhering effectively. This finding not only advances our understanding of polar bear biology but also holds potential for developing new anti-icing materials with applications in various fields, including ski technology.
