Shoes and boots with 'good walking properties' are required for prison officers in UK sizes ranging from a diminutive 3.5 to a whopping 14.5
The Irish Prison Service is currently seeking companies to manufacture and supply specially designed shoes and boots for male and female officers with UK sizes ranging from 3.5 to 14.5.
READ MORE: Prisoner, 20, found dead after hiding contraband in his body under pressure from 'well-known' inmates The manufacturer will also be expected to store the shoes and boots until they are required by the prison service, managing this inventory to facilitate online ordering, and delivering footwear to detention facilities around the country.
Prospective manufacturers are required to provide samples of the footwear with their tenders. The IPS employs around 3,200 personnel, and the contractor will be provided a list of these individuals along with their work location and shoe size.
