A Mubi streaming release date has been announced for The Substance, the body horror movie starring Demi Moore and Margaret Qualley.
After premiering at the Cannes Film Festival this past May, The Substance was released in United States theaters in September 2024. The body horror film is written and directed byMubi subscriptions cost $14.99 a month. There is also a yearly option that is billed as one payment of $119.98. “Demi Moore gives a career-best performance as Elisabeth Sparkle, a former A-lister past her prime and drawn to the opportunity presented by a mysterious new drug,” the synopsis reads. “All it takes is one injection and she is reborn – temporarily – as the gorgeous, twentysomething Sue . The only rule? Time needs to be split: exactly one week in one body, then one week in the other. No exceptions.
The Substance won the Best Screenplay award at the Cannes Film Festival. Fargeat — who made her feature film directorial debut in 2017 with Revenge, which stars Matilda Lutz — produced the movie alongside Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner. Alexandra Loewy and Nicolas Royer served as executive producers. The Substance has been positively received by critics and audiences.
