The UK's 50 best beaches have been revealed but Merseyside isn't on the list. The Times visited 543 beaches across the nation to discover which is best for visitors across a range of criteria but the closest location to Merseyside is a country away. Those 543 beaches were narrowed to 50 based on water quality, natural beauty, infrastructure, accessibility and the local community's thoughts.
Adventurers can explore the Flimston Bay Fault, featuring deep rock pools and tall, grass-topped outcrops that become islands at high tide while kids can lose themselves building sand castles in the bay. Llanddwyn, Anglesey, also made the list thanks to its lighthouse, ruined church of St Dwynwen, and thick Newborough Forest on Anglesey’s south coast. Across the bay is the fairy-tale backdrop of the mountains of Eryri .
