Andrea Leadsom has resigned amid a mounting coup against Theresa May, who will meet 1922 Committee chairman Sir Graham Brady on Friday to discuss her future
Theresa May’s premiership was hanging by a thread today after a full-blown Cabinet rebellion over her Brexit plans.
And she refused to meet top Cabinet ministers who were urging her to rip up her Brexit bill - and with it her leadership. One of them, leading eurosceptic Andrea Leadsom was said to be on the on the brink of announcing a leadership challenge. And Tory backbenchers met behind closed doors to decide whether to oust Mrs May before election results come out on Sunday night.
But their efforts to raise concerns about a fresh public vote were thwarted when No 10 turned down or pulled talks at the last minute. One ally of the PM said: “Her calculation is they won’t have the balls to come for her, because none of the leadership contenders want to be seen holding the knife - and she’s probably right”.
